Go to
Prefrences->LAN Streaming
Make sure its active. If you want to stream directly to another device, put in its IP address. (keep port at 1234)
Go to the other computer open VLC and chose open network stream
and type in "udp://@:1234" and viola.
NOTE: If you are streaming, the progress bar will be green and showing traffic. This is a good way to make sure everything is on the up and up on the serving machine. Sometimes I find you need to check and unchekc the stream to get it started again... this rarely occurs, but its a useful trick if you see it checked, but the progress bar is showing zero movement.
