hi. I think this is a codec thing but i have no audio when watching any hd channel. sd channels render find. the audio renderer is red out and there's only two choices. "default direct sound" and "realtek hd" the other codecs setting are all set to ffdshow 1.14070. I have two partitions, one xp and the other windows 7. there is no audio on hd on either but sd renders fine. Any ideas?

Thanks

try to install a few AC3 and AAC codecs,

You can install WinDVD for Intervidoe codecs and PowerDVD for Cyberlink codecs

I recommend using Intervideo codecs

For AAC, Mainconcept codec works fine on DD. Just do a search on the forum or google.

After installing different audio codecs, hold CTRL key during DD startup, then change audio codecs (MPEG2, AC3, AAC) in the video options dialog which will show up

tried quite a few including the two you mentioned. intervideo caused the hd to freeze and the other one doesn't work in xp 32. might work on windows 7 64 though.

download and install FFDShow latest version, then set dvb dream to use this decoder as your default H264,AC3, AAC codec.

That's the codec it's currently set to. it's weird. it can't be a codec things as it plays the sound when i play back the recording, just not when i watch live.

You need more codec options to test with. Simply install AC3 audio codec poppo mentioned. and re-install DD, but while reinstalling make sure you set the AC3 codec to AC3 filter during setup. Maybe your HD channels use AAC as audio format, then you need mainconcept demo codec for AAC. Works well. DD displays audio stream type next to signal and buffer bars. the one above is format of the video. and the one below is audio format.

I don't think it's a codec problem or there wouldn't be sound on the recorded playback
Would there?

DD can use one codec and the player application could use another. That could be why you can't hear audio on one of them for example.
