Is DD 2.4 recording all PIDs?

Postby -rp- » Thu Jun 20, 2013 7:30 am

Hi,

the pre 2.4 versions only added those ECM and audio PIDs to the TS recording if they were listed in the channel properties. Since these PIDs change all the time (even during a single program) one might miss something...

It wasn't mentioned in the release notes, has this behavior changed with version 2.4?

No, you need to update channel properties, otherwise it cannot know which pid belongs to that channel.
Alternatively , you can record whole TS with TSWriter module , it will include all channels and all pids.

where are you located and which broadcasts/satellites/providers do you watch? so pids that frequently change ?

You need to use the PMT tables at the time of transmission not the channel properties.
Many channels (especially movie channels) add and remove audio PIDs depending on the actual availability of additional audio tracks (for instance the German Sky channels on 19.2). Some even change it during commercial breaks.
Other channels are encrypted only for some programs, so if you did your satellite scan while they where showing a non-encrypted program, the channel properties will display no ECMs (for instance the French CANAL+ on 19.2).

It might bring slow channel changes. Maybe in later versions DD can try something optional for that.

You can still (or should) use the properties for the channel change, since that is the data you have at the time, but as soon as a new table comes along you should update the internal filters as needed. And those tables need to be monitored throughout the recording since they may change...
