1.4 - Channel switching - delay and freezing

Postby Dreamer » Mon Oct 29, 2007 11:36 am

Picture is freezing when I switch the channels, there is a few sec. delay (sound is OK), then it's OK - bug similar to early beta versions, also in the last beta 7, but it's even worse now, delay is sometimes, very often even few minutes!! Once even 3 minutes! Then video is playing very fast and then it's OK.

There is also small, but stable freezing, sometimes, similar to freezing with ATI codec only in beta 6, but now it's always with ATI, sometimes (quite often) also with InterVideo.

Tested with Technisat 4.4.0 and 4.4.1, ATI Catalyst 7.5 and 7.10. FTA and scrambled channels. I tried to increase "delay for stability while channel changing to 300ms, then to 1000ms. Tried also to toggle Full TS mode, other device - direct and WDM. Tested also with disabled timeshift. CPU usage is about 10%, when freezing it's 0-3%.

It works perfect with the same codecs (InterVideo, ATI...) in v1.3c. I'm using the same codecs / renderers / settings / guids.ini / plugins...

Is there a tick in "Reset DS after channel-change" check box ? It should be better with that. (default settiing in final release)

I tried that option in beta 7, it was not better, but it looks it helps in the final version - 1.4, I need more time to test.

However, that small, stable freezing is still there, with InterVideo and ATI, I'll try other codecs soon. It works perfect with the same settings, at the same channel immediately after I close DD 1.4 and start 1.3c. :?

More information - after few minutes of testing / per codec, recording all the time - v1.4:

InterVideo (v4.0.5.43 - 23. 5. 2002) - InterVideo (v4.0.11.83 - 25. 2. 2003)
- stable freezing, about 2 freezes per second

CyberLink (v4.0.0.113 - 17. 12. 2002) - CyberLink (v5.0.0.33 - 5. 8. 2003)
- no freezing

nVidia (v0.0.0.227 - 25. 2. 2003) - nVidia (v0.0.0.227 - 25. 2. 2003)
- no freezing

Sonic DVB (v2.5.3.16 - 26. 3. 2003) - CyberLink (v5.0.0.33 - 5. 8. 2003)
- huge stable freezing, worse than InterVideo

FFDShow (v1.0.3.21 - 22. 3. 2007) - CyberLink (v5.0.0.33 - 5. 8. 2003)
- minor stable freezing, almost invisible

ATI (v9.15.0.233 - 13. 7. 2007) - ATI (v9.15.0.233 - 13. 7. 2007)
- small stable freezing

I tried working codecs also after "non-working" codecs, CyberLink and nVidia are working always, others are freezing, always.

All codecs are working erfect with 1.3c, tested right after I closed 1.4.

I tried also 1.4 beta 5, all codecs are working good, except Sonic.

Same prob as i wrote here.
Seems to be independent either using Native or BDA_ALL.
Sometimes you can solve it with switching to another channel, sometimes you have to wait a few seconds/minutes to have a fluid view.
Must be a bug inside DD.

Do you still get freezes with "Reset DS after channel-change" checked in video options :?: while switching channels.

* I mean the freezing which happens for a few seconds only right after changing the channel.

I can't see/feel any differenc if 'Reset on Channel change' or 'Reset on overflow' is checked.
Here i have not a real freeze - more than very short (max. 1/4 sec) flickering. Not so easy to describe.

I have no freezes with "Reset DS after channel-change" enabled, I have "only" those small stable freezing, as reported above.

Channel changing is OK now in 1.4b, but small stable freezes are still there, but only with VMR9. Overlay works strange, sometimes it works good, sometimes there is very small freezing, or the same as with VMR9 (at some channels only, they are in the first post). Generic renderer doesn't work at all (don't know why), VMR is working good with Cyberlink (New).

CyberLink (New) (v8.0.0.126 - 18. 7. 2007)

In v1.3c it's all working good - same channels/codecs/renderers/settings/ch. list/plugins...

in v1.4c , the delays and freezing during channel change must have completely disappeared ( when it is compared to v1.3c)
