Can someone suggest a remote control that can control Dvbdream such as changing channels and navigating like a STB. I'm currently using a keyboard and mouse and it gets frustrating.

I am using iMon Soundgraph remote control. It works OK with SIMOSD and DVBEPG. I like the idea of remote and software works together to make DD just like STB FTA box...

I am using skystar2 with remote. I installed winlirc correctly . But each time I have to manually launch it before DD. Is there a way for DD to launch the Winlirc by itself. Editing ini????

Just create a batch file that starts winlirc than DD.

Open up notepad and add the lines to start the programs.

Example: For DD you would put in the file the line below.

c:\dvbdrem\dvbdream.exe

Then save it as "dvbdream.bat" and change the file type to all types. So to start winlirc first you would go find the exe for winlirc and add it above the line above so that it starts before DD.

Another alternative is HotkeyP.

1. Imon has option to launch when windows start up. So we don't have to worry about how to start Imon. :)
2. Imon has quick launch button. We could config to launch DD using the quick launch button. You will need to use Imon manager to configure it. Read the manual guide.
3. Make sure you enable SIMOSD within DD. Now you need to configure Imon to work with some features of SIMOSD such as EPG now, EPG next and Info. You need to use Imon Manager to add these function into DD from Imon perspective. example: launch Imon manager, click on the setting on the left handside, Select Program command, Add DD to the list by clicking on Add Program button, add function to DD by click on the Add button. Let's say function named "EPG NOW", Imon will ask you to define the short cut (Leftshift+X), and then Imon asks you to associate that function with Imon button (I use Bookmark button)
4. How it works? Great! when DD is running and you press the Bookmark button from Imon remote control, the Imon manager will pick up the signal and call "EPG NOW" function predefined in previous step. That function is simply simulating Left Shift+X keyboard, which trigger SIMOSD to show EPG now.

My my oppinion, SIMOSD wastes lot of buttons on keyboard. It works ok with keyboard, because KB has lot of button right? however, when talking about remote control, we don't have 20-30 keys to simulate...

I wish SIMOSD would do this:
Press I (info button on a lot of remote control)(or Ctrl-I or Shift-I) will show channel information plus EPG now,
Press I one more time, channel info + epg next
Press I one more time, close the information.

The other bad design of SIMOSD is that it does not use arrow key board to navigate the channel list. So to make imon remonte control work with SIMOSD channel list, you have to map the real arrow buttons of the remote control to some freak keyboard combination. I guess SIMOSD works like that because Simon actually uses the hook to catch the mouse and keyboard event and ignored the DD keyboard event signal. In my opinion, when SIMOSD shows the channel list, it should catch all the key event from DD and take lead on that, don't pass thru the event to DD.

Similar to instruction above, you could configure your iMon remote control to view DD in full screen mode - F5 function on keyboard

Similar to that, you could configure Imon remote control to launch DVBEPG - F9 funcion on the keyboard...

You also could apply the concept I talked above for any kind of remote control using Gider, or hotkey P software.
Hope this help.

I search thru the net and save a bat file with the following text

@echo off
REM
START E:\dvbdream\winlirc\WINLIRC.EXe
START E:\dvbdream\dvbdream.exe

It launches both both programs .
Thank you Dizzymon and smarg

chattana,

Thanks for the answer. Well, I know all this stuff (could save you the long post :) ) . I just wanted to know your mappings for operating SIMOSD. Because it can't use the arrow keys, i did not know to what keys to map it to make it natural and usefull. I agree that it would be much better if one could bring SIMOSD channels list, use up-down arrow keys to navigate between channels, use left-right arow keys to navigate between folders (general, favorites, remote), and enter to select the channel. It would be perfect and natural for both keyboard and remote users!!

You could just drag the program to the startup folder. Anything you put in that folder will startup when windows starts.. :)

That's sound much better. I use volumn up and down for left and right arrows, and channel up/down for arrow up/down. And bunch of buttons in the two last row of imon (6 buttons) for other SIMOSD feature..

I use a USB-UIRT with girder 3.3 HIP will also work I guess. Then you can use any old or universal controller. I also use this to open mpc and open files within all with the remote. It works great!

Whoa! Being a noob, I didnt understand 99% of all that. I just bought a Harmony 880 remote hoping it will control DD. Does anybody have any easy suggestions or advice on how I can go about that? Also, if you can link me to any sites that can help me get started, I would greatly appreciate it. Dont know if this helps, but here's my system specs:

Antec fusion black
Vista x32 home premium
Imon and Imedian HD
Genpix Skywalker 1
Dvbdream
Harmony 880 remote
