Think I have answered my own question. This page:
http://www.dvbdream.org/supported_devices.php
Indicates that my card understands DVB-S. Other cards (such as the SkyStar HD PCI) understand DVB-S2, but not mine.

Greetings! I am new to this game having recently bought a TechniSat SkyStar 2 TV - DVB-S receiver (PCI) from a nice chap on ebay. Please bear with my obvious ignorance. When the card arrived, I spent 6 hours trying to get it to work both with the app that shipped with the card, and with the dvbdream...
