if your on xp, install arcsoft decoder or cyberlink( google it).
for audio ffdshow or ac3 filter.

If your on win7, use microsoft decoder for video, and ffdshow or ac3 filter for audio.
set to evr in video options.

There is little black triange next to the record button on toolbar. This opens up a drop down menu which you could use to tell DD close after X minutes.

codec selection in DVB Dream have no affect on recorded file. What format did you use to record the file, mpg or TS? Try TS, it has better compatibility with other programs.
