I have some problems with streaming to VLC/MPC .. if i use udp://@ like dvbdream suggests neither will open anything .. if i use udp://@:port (whatever port i select it to use) VLC will open the stream and play fine but MPC still won't stream it just says "Opening ..." ... tried MPC-HC and old MPC both have the same problem, tried disabling my windows firewall if there was an issue but it does not matter it seems ..
any idea what could be the problem?

Re: problems with streaming
What windows operating system, what version of Dream, what IP are you streaming dream from, is multicast enabled in your routrer?
I use dream 1.7a p2 beacuse it is the last version I can get to stream. VLC 1.0.1 works for me but I use MPC 1.2.1249.0. I could not get the newer versions of vlc/mpc to work. I stream dream to (multicast) 239.255.255.255 and open MPC from the GUI with file - open file:
udp://239.255.255.250:1234
It works for me on a gigabyte lan or wireless n with XP or W7. I can stream anything even HD over 10 Mbit/s.
Try using the MPC version above and a multicast address with multicast enabled in router. It might be me, but I always found streaming not to be simple probably due to my network. I found that with a 100 Mb LAN, it worked no matter what, but with my Gb LAN, it has been finicky. Another trick that works is to stream dream to whatever the IP of the machine is and then use VLC with command line to restream it: vlc -vvv udp://@192.168.0.106:1234 --sout udp:239.255.255.255
The VLC or MPC reads it fine, but VLC still chokes on high Mb streams.
