How can I use DvbDream1.3C with Nexsus S

Postby sober king » Fri Jun 29, 2007 3:39 pm

My PCI setup has always worked well with older versions of DVBDream compared to any other applications out there, and have been very satisfied with the performance.

The time has come for me to upgrade to 1.3C but I understand it does not work with Nexsus S card.

Is there a way that by adding any Code patch to any one of the files in DD1.3C this could be made to work?

I have paid a lot of money for this card and it will be a pity that I will have to buy a Twinhan or some other card and throw a perfectly good NEXSUS S away with the other junk I have collected.

I am sure I am not the only one with this problem. People in similar situation may not be majority DVB PCI users but from my research by visiting several other forums we represent a sizeable minority.

May be the author of this great software will have pity on us and do some thing about it.

long ago, Pentium II was top of the line, and also was very expensive.
Do you still keep it?

Nexus S card has some qualities, but also has many limitations which don't allow to use it as "typical" card.

Buy yourself a $40-$50 Twinhan card, it IS cheaper then be "glued" to expensive Nexus.

Thanks for suggestion - but it simply takes away the fun from testing.

I am sure there is plenty of life left to watch the free TV (if that were the sole objective) even using the older versions of DD with Nexsus S or other equally good software out there.

Nothing tells me that I must have the PIP ability and other goodies which 1.3C makes it possible. Unless one is able to go HD in MPEG4 when it comes. That it seems is some good two or more years away.

In the interim, from the readings posted out there, people who are trying the HD either MPEG2 based version or 8PSK version are not an having easy time making it a success.

Therefore, my request to the developer of the DD software is for this interim period, and I would be content if this person rejects it out right.

I am presently running DVBDreamV.87b. You should know each PCI set up is unique in itself and your experience may differ from that of mine. I have also tried V.88b the last DD which works with Nexsus S, but I found it to be buggy.

I have used .87b for the last three years and found this version to be stablest with my setup.

Check every day this posting with the hope some one will suggest to the author (Relocation) of DD 1.3C to please put out a patch to support Nexsus S for SD broadcasts. This is a request - Please.

In any case HD in MPEG-4 according to B3V is atleast two years away.

There may be technically savy minority who are presently interested in HD available in MPEG-2 (B3V) or 8PSK (DN). But majority, like myself, using PCI setups are still watching the SD broadcasts.

HD available in MPEG-2 (B3V) or 8PSK (DN)
huh?
MPEG-2 is content encoding: compression of digital stream into digital stream.
8PSK is signal modulation: conversion of digital stream into analog signal (for transmission purpose only).

It's not even "apples and oranges". It's like "apples and triangles".

Thanks for explaining the differences in theory, but the picture quality (to the viewers - not the number of lines interlaced or not) produced by either method is the same. It was never said that both were the same.

The fact remains that only a small minority among the PCI Cards users (who in themselves remain a minority) are at this time trying to watch what ever kind HD is available. The rest watch the SD.

At the start of this hobby, the fact people chose to use DD, because it gave them the least of the problems compared to other applications available out there. As a shareware, its older versions as these evloved, were the easiest to install and get it going.

If do not think that author of DD versions 1.0 and above, has decided that these should only be useable by technical elite, and it is in this respect a patch is being requested.
