How can I schedule recordings with DvbDream?
Also, what are the benefits/drawbacks of the TS or MPG formats?

Use the scheduler to schedule recordings. It's kinda weird but the easiest way I've found is select the channel you want from the left hand side before going into the scheduler to schedule it because you don't get a channel # when you go into the scheduler itself. Unless there's some setting I missed someone please chime in.
I have no idea what the difference between TS and MPG just that MPG is more familiar to me than TS.

TS is a transport stream file. This means it can hold the full broadcasted multiplexed signal, including all audio, video and data packets.
In other words, by recording a .TS file you have every single channel of that transponder inside the file. It is your decision which one of them you want to watch by selecting the appropriate stream (by using VideoRedo or any other capable software that is).
I hope I helped a bit.
