how to turn off the LNB power in dvbdream 1.4h?

Postby b_apple » Sat Jan 05, 2008 11:12 am

the input of my dvb-s card is connected to the loop-out port of my receiver (VS Ultra). So, I need to turn off the LNB power in the dvbdream 1.4h application.

However, I searched all of the place, can not where to turn the LNB power off.

Please help me, thanks very much !

here is a workaround which I'm using here with one of my devices.
(but this might not be safe for your DVB device)

1) cut the coax at a point
2) strip the main wire (the one inside) at cut end-points
3) isolate main wires with tape and tie them. (they wont actually touch each other, there will be no connection. this will create a capacitor enough to let RF go through, without DC)
4) tie the outside wires (grounding), these should be connected well.

about the live/center wire (I'm not sure what it is called in english) : keep them close enough but dont let them to touch each other.

again, this might not be safe, especially if you accidently let it create a short-circuit.

There are also simple "dummy loads" for sale this is a simple resistor from 75 OHM. So that it looks for the reciever he is connected to a LNB.

Well, you sent me identical e-mail, except you use word "SkyWalker-1" instead of "DVB-s". Here is a reply I gave you:
you don't need to.
Properly made loop-out connection does not care what voltage is supplied to it, it simply does NOT pass DC through it (and it would not hurt DVB-s card either - there is no current consumption).
Weather SkyWaker-1's LNB voltage is enabled or not, incorrectly made loop-out connection would kill Skywalker-1 anyway (several models of viewsat have hardware error - they supply DC voltage to loop-out connector, this usually kills everything connected to it).

Actually, if SkyWalker-1 does supply LNB voltage there are less chances that it would be killed by incorrect loop-out design.
Thus, I don't see any reason to disable LNB voltage, at least in SkyWalker-1.

Also , you most cut center wire and put ( serial ) capacitor 47pF , like me...I ( like this ) use 2 SS2 on my PC on one SAT-antena .
Power for LNC comes from first SS2 , and second SS2 with capacitor ,use only signal from LNC.
