They both have h.264 accel.
How is the 8800GT with Dish HD h264? will it be better then ati 1250?
What codec do you recommend and video settings for best h264 performance?

I don't have an ati card to compare but the setup I'm using with an 8800GT seems to work pretty well.
Fairly high cpu usage on a dual core 1.86 Ghz system running Vista home premium. Typically 75-90%.

I get around 45 - 60% cpu use and the h264 channels drop frams and somewhat stutter. Restarting dvbdream 1.6i fixes the problem. Do u have same problem?

I just checked HIST-HD on 129 with about 60% signal level and I'm not seeing any stuttering or dropped frame but the cpu usage is about 50-90 %.
I have been switching back and forth between Vista and XP and I'm pretty sure XP has lower cpu demand but I'm still testing.
As per rel' post on codecs, I found that arcsoft seems to have the best performance over the other codecs I have installed.

the setup is 61.5 and 110 w genpix/ coreavc 1.6.5 and it stutters on every h264 channel on change of channel. If dvbdream is restarted on each channelchange then it plays fine. What can be causing this ?

I only have a 7600gt and h264 comes in great with arcsoft or coreavc 1.6.5 (with deinterlacing set to bob). Point is you don't need the 8800gt or whatever. its Codecs
