winLIRC loading/sever error

Firstly, When I reboot the PC I get a winlirc loading error "Could not start server".
There is also a red icon in the tray next to the the clock. I can only start winLIRC when this icon is not there. I cannot identify this icon or its origin. When I highlight it, it only shows "EXIT". If I exit, then I can start winLIRC. Why? What is it? It resembles the error icon found in winLIRC but it was there before I originally installed winLIRC. It first appeared after I installed my SS2 software. I am not able to unistall the sucker. I have uninstalled all SS2 software and deleted related folder on HD but every time I reboot. The da** red icon is back.
Secondly, whenever I start DD 1.4i my Norton anti-V pops up stating that an interworm was detected and blocked. I have been trying to figure out if it is the Norton anti-V as well as this RED icon that prevents the USB-IR from working. I think when winLIRC start in the startup menu, the red icon blocks it communication and Norton anti-V sees the protocol as a internet worm virus as an inport attack.
Looking for a means to resolve the issue.
Apart from these two items everything else works well.
