Installed Codec/decoder not shown in video options

Postby beagle » Thu May 29, 2008 3:49 pm

I'm trying to find some instructions on how to properly add codecs to dvbdream. I know you have to edit the guides.ini file or something, but how do you know what to add and where?

4gb ddr2 800mhz
genpix skywalker-1 dpp 1000.2
geforce 7600gt coreavc 1.7pro

In order for Dvbdream to show a codec as availble to use, you have to add the codec's CLSID number to Dvbdreams guids.ini file.

So let's say I want to add "DivX H264 Decoder Filter" to the guids file.

1) I use DirectShow Filter manager to display information about the codec filters I have installed.

Image

2) Next I locate the codec filter I want to use form the list in DirectShow Filter Manager, and double click the line for that codec. This open the codec's properties page.

Image

3) Then you open the guids.ini file with notepad (select all files type in notepad, while browsing for guids.ini). Each type of filter has it's own section in the guids file, I.E. Audio, Video and H264. So I add my new entry at the end of the existing H264 section. H264codec9 was in use, so the new entry becomes H264codec10

Image

4) Between the Codec Properties Page and Guids.ini, cut and paste the following informatiom. IE. (my example)
H264codec10="name of codec filter from properties page", {CLSID number from properties page}

Note any lines starting with a semi-colon in the guids file do not get read. Don't add a codec after a line with a semi-colon or it will not get read.

Note there is no space between codec name and the = sign

Note there is a coma after the name of the codec and one space before the CLSID number, which is in {} brackets.

5) Save the changes to Guids.ini (under the "file" menu of notepad).

I am trying to add the Intervideo codecs... I guess the ones I have are much newer than the ones which are recommended:
Video Codec.....: InterVideo (v4.0.5.43 - 23.05.2002)
Audio Codec.....: InterVideo (v4.0.11.83 - 25.02.2003)

Do I just replace the CLSID number in the guids file for the Intervideo that is in there ? Or do I add another entry at the bottom of each respective section ?

I would like to get my hands on the two codecs listed above since they are the ones that have been tested ...
XP Pro x64 | AMD X2 6000+ | 4 gig PC2 6400 RAM
GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 | LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Optical Drive | 47" Westinghouse 1080p
Genpix Skywalker 1 | DPP44 Multi | Dish 1000+

I don't think that Intervideo has changed the CLSID number between the different versions

Look for WinDVD 4, on ebay for $7.00

Well, I installed the the Intervideo codecs that beagle posted... but they are not showing up in DD. I thought that the CLSID might be different...

Use DirectShow Filter Manager to see if Intervideo codec is installed.

I got it... thanks for the help ! I am still getting freeze ups on HD channels... not to make it unwatchable ... but enough to make it way to unstable to leave running for recording purposes ... maybe it is the XP 64-bit I am using. Perhaps I need to go with XP x86 ... ???

On the other hand... it could just be some incorrect settings I have made in DD ... I would hate to blow the money of a new OS if that is not the problem.

itis now renamed as codecs.ini in the root folder of DVB Dream
file format is also changed a little bit
DVB Dream - because I have to dream about having time to code it
