The HD is amazing!!! Huge improvment, my CPU USAGE went from 75% to 20%, I was shocked, the quality of rendering is superb. I think previous PC's I dismissed as not being able to handle HD could probably get away with it in this setup.

(dvbDream still runs, but in renderless mode, your plugins function, the video stream is in turn directed to WMC, you can even use the guide features wich are excelent)

The app is a bit crappy and the install process, a mess... but if you can get through it, its well, worth it. In fact, I think it would be in dvbDreams developers intrest to just use the WMC interfece if its this efficent and requires only using MS's libraries.

I am still floored, I can't see any setup beating this for quality and performance, at least not on my rigg. WOW.

My old system, used to handle HD in the 35-75% CPU range, if there was heavy movment, like sports, it would go to the upper regions.

This setup seems to hover at 13-25% CPU on full HD sports channel with all the efects and whistles.

Just wanted to say that the improvment with dvbDream 1.5b7 is even better. The same hardware now draws between 6-13% on quality HD channel.

Here is a capture of my dual lcd setup to show that it works, and i do get low CPU rates.

My system is an Intel E6400 dual core (2.13Ghz overclocked to 2.93Ghz) the rest is below in my profile. The HD is being decoded to a 1680x1050 screen.

Without your soft I have 15-25% CPU usage on my PC. Do I have to reinstall SS2 driver. What is this dvbDream 1.5b7 . how to get it.

If anybody succeed let me know. Can we pay for such a junk. Installation by trial and error

Dvbdream 1.5b7 is a beta release that is not available to the public yet.



I find that the randering of h264 content in dvbdream is very pixxelated and I have always searched for the perfect codec and have not found one that lives up to the quality i am used to from an HD box.


The above method, on the other hand works SUPER, and really improves on HD rendering by leaps and bounds. You can't compare it to VLC, or any codec I have tried. MS has always used undocumented features, and i woudl not be surprised if they did so here as well, the cpu load is outstanding for the quality improvment gained. It's almost weird, that improves so much on quality, and it also drops your cpu load so much compared to other methods.


(btw this not using the stream feature, this is more closer to the redirecting the stream at the driver level)

You can get the same video rendering improvement right inside DVB Dream without the need to use
the Media Center if you get the 1.5 beta 7 and set it to use the Enhanced Video Renderer and
the Microsoft DTV-DVD codec as described here: http://www.dvbdream.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2476

Don't forget that it requires Windows 7 and a modern video card (like Nvidia GeForce 9 series).

And delete or rename your old v. 1.4 folder before installing 1.5 beta 7, don't let the old and new files
mix or it won't work properly. The beta 7 is so much better than 1.4 that it should be made a release
version as soon as possible.

For those that want to get the beta its quite simple really, without giving you a link, just google "dvbdream 1.5 beta" and you should be set. (NOTE: Getting a file from 2nd hand sources IS DANGEROUS!! So if you do this do so at your own risk.)



The only thing I would add is that the EPG integration in WMC is amazing, as are the PVR features. So there still incentive to go that way for those that want to dump dvbepg.

Thanks Atom, I found mine in an alley on the dark side of town, thankfully it was unadulterated.




Back to the MS codecs, I saw something interesting when I enabled the MS codecs on a machine that was fairly loaded with codecs, they DID NOT behave as nicely as they did in WMC on the very same machine.

There was bleeding on channels with tickers like ESPN. Sometimes the redraw did not clear the previous display quick enough and it left a bit of a trail.



I don't know what to make of it. When I installed on a fresh machine they performed identically in WMC as DvbDream using your settings. Perhaps there are some routines in WMC that flush other codecs out before it activates its own, maybe its only an aggressive settings re-assertment. I honestly don't know, just guessing, as to why on this one machine there was an observable difference.

The DVBLINK homepage references MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 and I was wondering if you have had success on tuning in the following H.264 channels on one Galaxy 16 (99 deg West) transponder:

3740Mhz Vertical SR= 30000 (GDMX labelled)

Four (of the 6) channels are S2 with H.264 compression requiring 8PSK demodulation with the first two channels being Standard Definition and the second two High Definition (one HD is encrypted so forget it).

Of course H.264 is a subset of MPEG-4, so the DVBLINK homepage does not exclude its potential reception.

Of course, I am not sure where you are located for potential access to that satellite's visibility.
