Recordings come out different size

I'm watching Freeview via DVB-T on Windows Vista Home Edition.
Usually it records well... but when I recorded it as an MPEG tonight it came out looking a bit stretched -
This is for the freeview channels BBC One and Two, and the aspect ratio came out looking a bit odd... anyone know why?
I'm using version 1.4i, by the way.
