Overlay question (re-recording recorded material?)

Is it possible to re-record previously recorded material using overlay on DVBDream?

I read that you could re-record using overlay somewhere on the 'net, forgot where!

My version is 1.4i, and it works well, no crashes.

However, I'm using VMR9 as the video renderer, tried re-recording an MPG I recorded earlier and it came up blank; why is this?

What should I do to be able to re-record previously recorded materials, if it's possible, on DVBDream?
