1.2b HDTV MPEG2 problems

Postby deltad » Fri Sep 15, 2006 11:40 pm

I'm using the Genpix 8PSK module and am having problems with HDTV channels in NA -- even non H.264 content -- plain MPEG2. Normal MPEG2 channels work but anything in HDTV resolution doesn't. I can record these channels and play them back in DVBDream but live viewing does not work.

I'm using Cyberlink (New) video codec and AC3 filter audio codec.
The guid is {8ACD52ED-9C2D-4008-9129-DCE955D86065}
Video card is ATI Radeon X1800.
OS is WinXP SP2.
CPU is AMD Opteron 165.

Version 1.2a had the same problem.
TSReader and the genpix works fine on the same channels.

I will try to test DD with MPEG-2 HD channels today.

were the channels you've tried working ok with DD v1.1h?

Sorry -- never tried 1.1h. HD channels were mostly scrambled between the time genpix got his module working with DD and just recently.

Ok -- I figured out how to get the HDTV channels to work.
The Intervideo codecs HAD to be installed even though I was planning on using the cybervideo or AC3 filter audio codecs. When an AC3 signal from a HDTV station was passed through -- the default directsound device would turn red in the pulldown preventing audio decoding and as a consequence video decoding. As soon as I installed Windvd to get the intervideo audio codec, the directsound problem disappeared even when not selecting the Intervideo codec. I did find the Intervideo audio codec the best non H.264 codec to use though.

Nice. Do you get any freezing while watching MPEG2-HD on DD?

I cant test mpeg2 HD here properly , only one transponder sends mpeg2 HD , all other channels started to use H.264. I have some freezing on that TP but that could be particular to this TP. So I need to know if it periodically freezes there too.

MPEG2

CHANNEL
Name: "EVENEMENT HD" Provider: "CSAT"
TRANSPONDER
12581000, V, 22000000 QPSK
Satellite: 0192 - Astra 1A-H, 2C

- freezing, no sound, I tried several renderers/codecs

CHANNEL
Name: "ASTRA HD" Provider: "SES ASTRA"
TRANSPONDER
12168000, V, 27500000 QPSK
Satellite: 0192 - Astra 1A-H, 2C

- one crash, then freezing, sound is OK

CHANNEL
Name: "ASTRA HD" Provider: "SES ASTRA"
TRANSPONDER
11720000, H, 27500000 QPSK
Satellite: 0235 - Astra 1D Kopernikus 3

- I'm not sure what is is, lyngsat says it's DVB-S2 MPEG2, but it's impossible, since I have SS2, anyway - NO FREEZING here! Tested with VMR9, ATI, nVidia, Cyberlink New. There is a freezing only with ffdshow. It doesn't work good with any codec if I use Overlay renderer, screen is "green" (but not completely).

MPEG4 - H264

CHANNEL
Name: "H.264 - HD" Provider: "SES ASTRA"
TRANSPONDER
11720000, H, 27500000 QPSK
Satellite: 0235 - Astra 1D Kopernikus 3

- black screen with any codec/renderer, bad sound, but I can hear it, but this is probably DVB-S2, so it's normal, even if I'm sure it was working few weeks ago (it was not DVB-S2 before).

CHANNEL
Name: "LUXE TV HD" Provider: "EUTELSAT"
TRANSPONDER
11240000, V, 27500000 QPSK
Satellite: 0130 - Hotbird 1-5

- CyberLink H.264 - small picture and sound freezing probably due to 100% CPU usage only
- coreAVC - no freezing, but there is wrong AR and often I can see even only a part of screen
- ATI - "green" screen with Overlay, strange screen (more in other topic) with VMR9, but sometimes even several seconds good picture

All channels have wrong AR with nVidia, with ATI it's correct.

Edit: Now I have "green" screen problems with overlay also on non HDTV channels with any codec. VMR9 is OK, but again it's too dark, I have to reset colors manualy, this happens often when testing HDTV channels.

Hardware: AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1GB RAM, ATI RX800 256MB, SB Audigy 2 Value, SkyStar 2 r2.3, Dish-Offset 120cm...
Software: Windows XP SP2, DirectX 9.0c, ATI Catalyst Driver 6.8, TechniSat DVB 4.4.0, Abakt, avast! Antivirus, Avant Browser, DVB Dream, FFDShow, Free Download Manager, freeCommander, HotkeyP, Kerio Personal Firewall, Media Player Classic, Nero, OpenOffice.org, Orca Browser, Photofiltre, PTBSync, Skype, Spybot, Trillian, Xnview, ZipGenius...

- looks the same as 13E's Luxe TV HD

12245000, V, 27500000 QPSK
