2.2b - Eurekalog crashes on DVB-T

Postby Dreamer » Fri May 10, 2013 8:01 am

I started to use my DVB-T card more often and now I hame much more crashes as before, perhaps it's because of a bit lower signal, it the HD MPEG4 channel, don't know, but I have the Eurekalog crash after almost every channel change.

The first screenshots, when I had the HD MPEG4 channel and tried to open SD MPEG2 channel as PIP, I tried to click OK and re-open the PIP window, but I had the same crash again.

Hardware: CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz, RAM 4GB, GPU GeForce 8800GT 512MB, Audio X-Fi Titanium, HDD1 WD 640GB, HDD2 WD 640GB, DVB-S2 tuner Skystar HD2, DVB-S tuner SkyStar 2 r2.3, DVB-T tuner AVerTV Ultra PCI-E RDS, Audio Creative Inspire T5400, Monitor Samsung 215TW 21"...

Now broken switching - no eurekalog, just logs, this happens very often when switching channels, randomly.

Just addition for broken channel switching, I mean there is a signal, but no picture, Reset device doesn't help, more channel switching doesn't work at all, Reset Direct Show leads to Eurekalog crash.

it looks like video or audio codec problem in my opinion.

did you try with other codecs that you can see in the screenshot?:
Image

these work well here:

(If you don't have these, let me know, I'll send them for you to test with)

If changing codecs doesn't help, then it could be weak signal levels. Need to test on some strong signal / maybe satellite.

Also use Intervideo for AC3 codec if you don't have any other reason to use other codecs.

LAV codecs need "reset DS after channel change" to be checked in video options.

Hi rel, please send me the codecs, I tried also other codecs, but I'd try those you said, just to be sure it's another issue.

Weak signal - I can't see the real signal, it's usually always at 100%, signal and level, perhaps it's a DD issue? When I scan, I can see the real signal. I can't test on satellite, that card is DVB-T only (+analog TV and radio).

Important - I can see some problems - only on one channel - it's the HD MPEG4 and may have a weak signal, sometimes the signal indicators change from 100-100 to 100-40 or 0-0 and the green ($) sign displays for a moment. There are also problems with picture, stuttering even if signal is 100-100.

Anyway, on another HD MPEG4 channel everything is OK, I can watch it for hours, also on other SD channels, when I don't switch, it works perfect, even recording multiple channels.

The problems are in channel switching, audio change, reset device, DS, when I restart DD, everything works good.

Edit: I will testing on strong signal now, one multiplex is really strong.

Sent the codecs in PM.

DD displays what driver says about signal.

Please check "Packet Losses" in info-bar while on that HD MPEG4 channels, if there are packet losses then it is really a weak signal. Then you can try to get better signal until you get 0 packet losses, "antenna" is the thing to play with.

My current settings which work well for everything (Windows 7 64bit, Asus HD 7750)
Video Codec.....: Microsoft (v6.1.7140.0 - 14.07.2009)

Thanks. I have packed losses on the problem HD channel, I said it's probably the signal, but no packet losses on another HD channel and few SD channels, I will be testing on these channels only.

First result - switched from good SD channel to good HD channel - result is no picture/sound. With good I mean 100% signal and 0 packet losses. And another channel change from SD to SD on the same mux with stable 100-100 signal, again, no picture/sound, but no Eurekalog. So it looks it's not just signal issue, since here is the 100% signal with 0 packet losses.

There is another mux with good signal, a bit worse than on the first mux with HD channel, but signal is 100-100 - quality is changing between 98-100%, sometimes it's 96%, but not less. When I switch between channels on this mux, I have always 3 packet losses - only on channel change, then no more packet losses, stange.

Sometimes I have 1 packet loss on channel change only, even on first mux with stable 100-100 signal.

I will be testing on 1st mux with good signal only to eliminate the signal problem, then I'll try the new codecs.

Edit: I'm using reset DS after channel change, I'll try to disable it to eliminate the problem.

What else can I try to change, I already tried to double the size of buffers.

I have installed codecs, but I don't have this one, perhaps it's because of OS, I have the 32 bit Vista:

Microsoft (v6.1.7140.0 - 14.07.2009)

I have this one, so I'll try this one:

Microsoft (v11.0.6001.198 - 10.04.2009)

Important, I didn't say, I'm using Remote tab all the time, perhaps this is a problem too, because I had crashes when dragging channels on DVB-S.

OK, so here are the logs after channel switch on the mux with the best, stable 100% signal, result is no picture/sound, but I checked the codecs and there is no pink background, so it looks it's not a codec issue - I have used also recommended codecs, with the one change only (MS codec with a bit different version):

Video Codec.....: Microsoft (v11.0.6001.198 - 10.04.2009)
Audio Codec.....: Microsoft (v11.0.6001.88 - 18.01.2008)
H264 Codec......: CyberLink Video Decoder (PDVD10) (v1.0.0.225 - 02.04.2010)
AC3 Codec......: InterVideo (v4.0.11.83 - 25.02.2003)
AAC Codec......: MainConcept Demo AAC (v7.6.0.162 - 07.10.2008)
Video Renderer..: Video Mixing Renderer 9
Audio Renderer..: Default DirectSound Device

So where is the problem, it's not signal, not codecs?

BTW I don't have this problem with same codecs on DVB-S - perhaps just occasionally but it works after reset device or DS there, on DVB-T reset device or DS doesn't help, it's even leads to Eurekalog crash - I didn't have any with the new codecs though, yet.

Edit: So I'm thinking, it might be EPG, because it never fails when I restart DD and switch channels - it only fails when I watch any channel for at least few minutes, so perhaps when the EPG is full, it's a problem and then the channel change fails.

So I tried to watch one channel for about 5 minutes, then switch and it failed, I'll try to disable EPG now and testing...

So I can always reproduce this one:

- Run DD, switch to STV1, wait about 10 minutes, switch to STV1 HD - no picture, never.

- Run DD, switch to STV1, don't wait, switch to STV1 HD - picture is OK, always.

Here are the codecs I use and the both channels info:

Video Codec.....: Microsoft (v11.0.6001.198 - 10.04.2009)
Audio Codec.....: Microsoft (v11.0.6001.88 - 18.01.2008)

AC3 Codec......: InterVideo (v4.0.11.83 - 25.02.2003)
AAC Codec......: MainConcept Demo AAC (v7.6.0.162 - 07.10.2008)
Video Renderer..: Video Mixing Renderer 9
Audio Renderer..: Default DirectSound Device

I can reproduce this issue - only no picture after channel change, not Eurekalog, on DVB-S2 card now, using the copy of the DD folder for DVB-T.

I couldnt reproduce here .

Maybe it is system related. Some part got broken in Windows, since it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't (when you wait) it sounds quite weird.

Btw, except LAV codecs, please turn off "Reset DS after channel change" option. Because this option causes "Reset Directshow" for each channel change.

After disabling "Reset DS after channel change" option in 2.4b it's better, channel switches are less often, it was changed from 100% after more than 15 min. switch, to 10-20%. No crashes, no Eurekalogs when trying to reset device or DS (until now).

Important note, I have a new graphic card, the old one 8800 GT 512MB is broken, now I have GeForce 9500GT 1GB.
