Song Title and Band Name on Audio Channels (NA)?

It would be really cool if DD could display the song title and band name on audio channels.
Or is that best left to modules?
Apologies if this has been asked before.

This could be possible only if such channels transmit those informations

For the Dish Network audio and CD channels, this information is definitely transmitted, though I can't say how difficult it would be to parse. On Dish Network receivers, you see it on-screen (acts as a rudimentary screen saver), or via the remote's info button. The audiorip plug-in for TSreader can also parse this information.

the info does indeed appear, but only seems to be working on certain sirius channels and audio cd channels as TheKrell stated above. Using DVBEPG allows this to display, but it does not do it everytime you run dvbdream. However I beleive it is in the module itself (version 1.4.0.0) and I can confirm this module does indeed work in dvbdream 1.4. We have not seen an update for dvbepg in a long long time, i do not know if the original coder still develops it or not.

So it seems to be transmitted in EPG stream. Have you tried SimOSD module ? As this module use a timer to grab EPG every x seconds (I don't remember the value of x

) it should be able to display actualized informations. I've tried it with video channels about music that sometimes transmit those infos and it works fine.
See below ( sorry for the poor music that was transmitted when I made screenshots

)

Using DVBEPG allows this to display...
Interesting. I have never gotten DVBEPG to display anything. Is there a particular channel I must tune in order to get this info?
Example for Plugin

Thank you for all the kind responses. Here is an example of how a plugin could behave. This is purely an example.
Imagine being able to see all the audio channels on a given transponder and the song title + band name. Note that the song title + band name flashes yellow when a song changes on a given channel.
This would make a killer plugin:
Clicking on the tune switches channels. Clicking on the SID/name takes you to interesting info on the web (e.g. song history, most played, etc.)

I've just been observing something as am messing with dvbdream here(v1.4). If I am on a channel with video and switch to a radio station, dvbepg overlay diplays station info(does not always display artist - track info). And dvbdream appears to be using a "blanking frame" (makes the video of the channel you were watching when switching to radio go to a black background........which is a good thing t prevent screen burn-in). Anyhow, when this blanking occurs, it stops the overlay from working if you switch to further radio stations. One station that I could almost always count on for display info was Sirius 6006(60's vibrations). Again they never trigger reliably once the video frame has been blanked. I love the blanking feature of the background going to black though, i dont want that changed for anything. I wish the dvbepg coder could take a look at this and see what he/she could do.
I hope that explains better what i've been observing. Cheers.
Where in stream is audio info?

For NA sat (2500/2410), where can you find the audio information (e.g. song title) in the stream? If possible, I'd like to record the stream and see if I can pick out the song title with a hex editor. (or am I totally crazy?)

I think this would work for some sats. I have no idea about 2500/2410, but for Dish Network sats, and according to an audiorip readme I found, this information is transmitted every 2 seconds. The interval is much longer on BEV sats, making it problematic to split out individual songs, appropriately labeled.
