That isn't something this sort of software is capable of.

DVB streams typically contain MPEG-1 Layer 2 (MP2) and sometimes AC3 audio.
In order to save as MP3 it would actually have to transcode from MP2 into MP3. If you really need the MP3 format you'd be best to do this in your favorite MP3 maker, assuming it supports MP2 or AC3 as a source format. Otherwise you'd have to convert to WAV first.
(Some programs will name MP2 as MPA meaning Mpeg Audio, they are the same)

I wouldn't recommend this because the artifacts caused by recompressing don't sound very good. Just leave the audio as MP2 or AC3.

Just changing the file extension doesn't change the format.

Windows Media player and Winamp will play MP2/MPA files.

yeah you are right there is no need for transcoding. please let audio as is but however I've got a tiny request related to this as well. add support for recording radio channels into pip1-pip19 if possible.
yes and another story is ability to record multiple audio streams within an active channel at least for main window please (if possible).

Similar topic - http://www.dvbdream.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=74

Note: DD can't record audio channels now.

Workaround - use mp3DirectCut to record any source to mp3, you can also cut mp3, but also mp2 without recompression with it.

to record audio only with DD 1.1H I am doing the following:
TS recording
demuxing with PVAstrumento,
cutting using mp3directcut
transcoding using foobar2000 (if needed) or muxing using ifoedit (if needed)
please note DD stores PAT within the TS file so it may take a while to demux audio.

I use a program called Easy MP3 Recorder and just record the stream from WAVE out. The MP3's come out great. I listen to them in the car all the time.

Not a bad workaround, also mp3DirectCut can do it, but it's not lossless way.

Precisely the point. Going from MP2/MPA/AC3 to WAV and back to MP3 is transcoding and will add compression artifacts. If you're not concerned with quality that may be acceptible.

Winamp will play MP2/MPA/AC3. It will convert MP2/MPA to WAV also by using the disk writer output plugin, and it's very very fast.
AC3 in Winamp requires ffdshow or Valex AC3 decoder. Valex's plugin sounds terrific you cannot convert to WAV. I haven't tested that with ffdshow.

A program called HeadAc3 will convert AC3 to WAV and offers options for multi-channel files.

TMPGEnc demux tool will separate MP2 and AC3 from an MPG file.
Womble MPEGVCR will to but it always writes the audio as an MPA file even if it's AC3, you must rename it.

BeSplit (related to the very nice program BeSweet) will cut/trim MP3 and MP2 without recompressing. FREE.

well we are going off topic; but anyway there are my experiences too.
Winamp plays ac3 better using directshow interface than the plugin you are refering to does; no mather which codec is installed. I have tested it with FFD show and ac3 filter.

Another excelent software to play and process audio files is foobar 2000. It can be tweaked to do most of the features besweet has. of course you need 3rd party libraries in many cases but that's also applicable to besweet.
it's just an example of my setup.

Thanks for the input pvdeejay.

Another program is Super.

It can be used to convert many video and audio formats to many others.
FREE.
