I use MCE for all terrestrial TV, DVD/music playback, etc. and it would be nice to be able to use this same remote to control DD. I have never seen any API or SDK for using the MCE remote outside of MCE so I don't even know if this is practical to do, but I would be thrilled if this support could be added.

Is it COM/serial, or USB remote? if COM/serial, try HotkeyP:

I'm afraid it's USB.

Perhaps there is a patch for USB, you can try to find it, patch for WinLIRC, then it should be working with HotkeyP. There is such a patch for ATI remote (USB), I guess.

Girder is a shareware since version 3.30 but you can try to find the last freeware version 3.29b on the web.

I would also love to see support for MCE remotes. Simply because almost all the people I install DVBdream to have an MCE PC and thus, all have an MCE compliant remote.

Perhaps a hotkey system much like the one in Media Player Classic? In the latter, you can bind signals like MEDIA_PLAY MEDIA_PAUSE etc to commands. It means that it works with all sorts of device, like the mediaplay mouse from logitech, MCE remotes, MCE keyboard, etc.

DVBdream is a killer app because it does what most other apps fail to do. I don't believe other DVB apps out there support MCE remotes and that is the one feature almost everyone asks me if they can use.

Thank you for a truly wonderful app.
