CPU usage too high!

Postby daWsOn_s » Mon Nov 13, 2006 11:43 am

Hello,
first of all thanks for your work here Rel, I'm glad you added recording in TS with all audio pids :D I like to know if there is some option to disable mpeg2 decoding like ProgDVB does. I mean, when I schedule recording with the option "disable video render" (renderless) the CPU usage is still 30-35% (watching video is about 40%) insted of ProgDVB that when I disable mpeg-2 decoder it records whit 8-10% of CPU.

Thanks. :D

Everytime. Now in 1.3a 35-40% if renderless mode disabled, almost the same if enabled (FTA channel).

When just watchig FTA channel, it's 10-20%, renderless mode enabled (still no recording) 0%, so renderless mode is not broken completely.

I tried also with disabled timeshift, results: 25-35%, with renderless mode enabled 20-30%.

Hardware: AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1GB RAM, ATI RX800 256MB, HDD 320GB SATA II, SB Audigy 2 Value, SkyStar 2 r2.3, Monitor CRT 19" 4:3, Dish-Offset 120cm...
Software: Windows XP SP2, DirectX 9.0c, ATI Catalyst Driver 6.9, TechniSat DVB 4.4.0, IE6, Abakt, avast! Antivirus, Avant Browser, DVB Dream, FFDShow, Free Download Manager, freeCommander, HotkeyP, Kerio Personal Firewall, Media Player Classic, Nero, OpenOffice.org, Orca Browser, Photofiltre, PTBSync, Skype, Spybot, Trillian, Xnview, ZipGenius...

So what happens now?? It's impossibile that a dvb software uses 90-95% of CPU recording in mpeg2 during watching!

But this bug has been already fixed. :?

Watch values in Windows Task Manager, not in DD's status bar - there is a global CPU usage! It might be some other program, you can check it in Processes tab in Task Manager.

v1.3c - FTA channel - recording - 5-15%! Recording+Renderless mode 0-2%!

Yes I confirm, i didn't update the software when I wrote. But...why the watching CPU usage is so high? I mean with progdvb or altdvb with FTA-mpeg2 channels the cpu remain in 25-29% while in dvbdream stays always over 60%!!

I can't find your PC config, right now (in v1.3c) CPU usage at FTA channel is 2-6%! With ATI codec and overlay renderer, I tried also InterVideo, CPU usage has increased to about 15%, so try other codecs, renderers...

Yes you can! Just for the records, renderless mode takes only 5-8% of CPU! GREAT!
