Scanning ASTRA 19.2°E will crash DD sometimes

Postby ScanMan » Sat Jun 09, 2007 2:43 am

Receiving-System is a fixed 90cm-Dish with two quattro LNBs and an SkyMaster Multiswitsch MSP 98 (9 in / 8 out). Dish and LNB are aligned to ASTRA 19.2°E (direct) and HOTBIRD 13.0°E (leered).
DVB-Hardware is an Technisat USB-Box-plus with BDA-Driver form Software-Package 1.0.7.2.
DD is configured 'DiSEqC v1.0-v2.0'. No other settings diverging from the normal setup.
This combination works fine so far - also switching between the Satellites !

Prob is:
DD crashes while normal (full) scanning ASTRA 19.2°E.
NOT EVERY TIMNE - ONLY SOMETIMES AND NOT (!) EVERY TIME AT THE SAME FREQUENCY !
Next curious thing is: it only happens on 19.2°E - NEVER ON HOTBIRD 13.0°E !!!

I can avoid this prob by doing a Quick-Scan and select only up to 10 Transponders at the same time. 5 marked TPs will do best mostly. Positive effect is, i don't have to start erverytime from beginning...
Mostly above 11700 MHz (also abaove 12000 MHz) DD will crash.

After restarting, DD will sometimes (again sometimes - NOT every time !) hang while trying to scan.
Level and Quality is good again, but Scan-Window says: scanning xxxxx MHz x xxxxx. No Quality-percentage will be shown !
The scan can stoped normally with no error and i can try it try again... same procedure.
So i have to close DD - this will bring a big crash.

Starting DD again and try scanning again (1-5 TP's) will work fine - very crazy !
I can't get a clue out of this.

It should be noteable, that the first scaned TP (also with Quick-Scan) in the list is always marked. Why ?

Can anybody confirm this bug and have a conclusion ?
This prob is multiple reported in the german forum www.dvbdream.de with differnt cards / boxes.
Only while using BDA-Drivers ! Should / could be an elemntray prb from the Windows BDA-System ???

Also noteable funny thing is:
When i use my build-in Technisat SkyStar 2 Rev 2.6D with WDM-Driver 4.4.0 and 'B2C2-Direct', everything (not only the scan) works absolutely fine without any probs !

Hello,
I don't know if my problem is the same. With my specs (see the signature) DD sometimes closes during the scan. It happened twice to me today. First when I was scaning astra 19E and second time when scaning hotbird 13.0E. No error message or any unusual prompt was generated. it just disapeared automagically even from the task manager. I am guessing that it might be related to network scan because my ini transponder files are not updated. I am using those shipped with DD 1.3C. Also interesting is the fact that it has never happened to me before.

Hello !

I have exactly tha same problem with Twinhan 1034 Mantis CI.
Twinhan uses also BDA driver.
I use the BDA console for MCE to switch my Diseq 4-1.
Everytime I start DD it says Errorcode 1 and goes to offline mode.
After yhat I can get it running by restarting the card.

Addendum:

In the german DD_Forum many users reported similar probs.
Mostly scan will hang / crash at frequency 11836 H 27500 (ARD Digital) and causes an error in ntdll.dll (system file).

I can reproduce this error as many times i like !

Taking a look in the dvdbdream.log, you can see that theres is no response from the tuner (no locking).
Scanninf this TP manually works absolutly fine.

While unmarking this freq. in the TP-List for automactically scanning, DD will hang / crash on the next TP.
And so on...

Curious things:
1)
Using my SkyStar 2 Rev. 268 with WDM-driver 4.4.0 modded by MiBi, scanning works absolutly fine without any error. Scan-time approx. 5 Min. for 76 TP.
So it should be a prob in the BDA-S.DEV ???
2)
Happauge reported the same prob here for the latest NOVA-Drivers:
http://www.hauppauge.de/pages/support/s ... r25e2.html
(it's in german)

Cannot do a complete scan on Astra 19.2°E with my Terratec Cinergy 1200 DVB-S (BDA Drivers), DD hangs on several TP (from 11817,V,27500 to 11934,V,27500)... Doing a manual scan has the same result., but this card just works fine with DVBViewer Pro.

My old PCTV Sat (WDM drivers) works fine on the same PC.

New BDA-Device-Driver

Postby ScanMan » Wed Aug 15, 2007 11:29 pm

After a few tests i decide to create a new DBA-Device-Driver for DD.
Result after weeks of coding and testing:
Works fine - no more hang up / crash during scanning !

If someone like to be betatester - let me know and sent your mail-address via pm. I will send you a beta-release to try out.

Features should be the same as the original delivered BDA-Drivers for C, T and S.
DiSEqc seems only available for four satellites - a restriction from BDA !

What's new ?
Now you can select every available BDA-Device in the system and run it with one driver !
Controled by a little INI-file its possible to enable/disable a log-file to see whats wrong or where the probs seems to be.

This new driver work great with Twinhan 1034 CI Mantis.
Though I must use BDA-console when switching beetwen
Sat-positions with a Diseq 1-4 switch,
Scanning Astra I got 427 new radio and TV-channels and
DD starts without error-message.

Thank You very much Scanman :D !!!

So here's the last version to access for anyone.
I will start a new thread in the common section with the next version.

Some neccessary information for DiSEqC-users:

Because DiSEqC is not an implemented feature in BDA, i used a little familar trick to do this.
Works on Terratec and Technisat (Technotrend) cards/Boxes but unfortunately not with every Hardware-BDA-Driver...
Neccessary to get it working is to have DiSEqC-setup in DD to 'v1.0 or 2.0' and set the related Satelleites to the correct Port !
Also urgent is to set 'Always force to resend diseqc commands' under Options/Preferences/Performance.
Repeat count must be minimum 1 (thats enough).

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - OTHERWISE DD SENDS NO DISEQC-COMMAND !

Copy both files to the directory ...\DVBDream\Devices and restart DD.

Under Options - Devices you see a list of available Devices.
Select 'BDA-S/-C/-T. You should see a an explicit plain text below the list which describes the device.

If you have more than one active running BDA-Device, you can select it between them with the two arrows up/down left below the list.

After selection press the START-Button -DO NOT LEAVE WITH OK BEFORE !
If no error occurs (DD dont deliver an appropriate message), wait max. 5 seconds and then press OK to cloe the window.
