*IMPORTANT* Future DVB Dream versions

Postby rel » Mon Dec 14, 2009 2:46 am

Hi guys,

I will make DVB Dream a commercial software soon. Just to let you know.

I need this, to be able to continue on the project. Because the project I started in 2003 as hobby now requires a lot of time. As a choice, I needed to utilize this time on other areas of my life in past 1-2 years. (As you get older, you realize this is a crucial choice between a hobby and life requirements)

To be able to continue this and provide more professional approach, I will try to make it commercial. This will also help maintain more support and provide more updates.

For the people who helped this project (with donations, beta tests and good friendship for years!) , I will still provide new commercial DVB Dream versions free.

Oh well... that's to bad for us I guess.

Just one thing, and you surely know it already, but when people pay for something they have tendencies to be a lot less willing to help fixing a bug and usually only demand them to be fixed and fixed fast or they go see competitors... that is the downside of commercial apps, hopefully you won't have too many problems and you'll be a richer developer with more free time to bless us with great (free) apps such as DVBDream.

Good luck with the commercial software.

P.S. : I don't know if you plan to rewrite the whole app when switching to commercial, but if it is the case, would you consider making the current app open source ?

Hi, Rel

Nice to see you again.

Well, about making DVBDream a commercial software, I really think that is your best solution, hope that this will be enough in this so slow DVB-PC times.

Good luck for you and DVBDream project.

I will buy a few of these if you can integrate DVBdream with WMC, the way it does now with VLC. I like the fact I can configure and scan my sats with the dream and use dvblink to do this, but the integration is clunky, and if you can natively take advantage of Widnows HD revolution by integrating with WMC that would be great! I'm sure there are a lot of MS support documents on how to do this.

It would also boost your sales if you can have a justin.tv stream feature, or similar such feature that allows others to share their sat stream via the net. Justin tv is really big now, and you can get a lot of exposure that way if you include a feature for it.

Being able to stream to friends will get you good sales.

All the best.

I'm fine with commercial version. DVBdream is stable enought, maybe it should better handle timeshift, but I'd pay for new version if you could add extra features ex.taskbar functions (stop, record, play, pause, change channels), skins maybe? better codec/hardware recognition. Better explanation of some options, etc etc, I have lots of ideas :)
Anyway, hope you wont focus too much on coding protection. It's better to give program for 15€ so everybody will buy it then put a something like 50€ that no one will pay for if you know what I mean :)

Anyway, make it stable as rock + some features, and you'll get my money! :)

erh, yes ...I am dreaming about dvbdream for linux (ubuntu) :)

rel,

this is a great application, I am more than happy to support you if you can get this thing to stream to another pc on the net. I have a feeling I am not the only one.

I think you have done a great job with this ap, so much so that i have stayed away from others because of its ease of use.

You have my support.

Any ideas on what new features might be in the next release?

Thanks,

I just want to wish you all the best with your commercial version. I really like DVBDream and I think you deserve to be able to live from the proceeds of sale.
