Audio Renderer Problems

Is there a trick to getting the Audio Renderer to work properly? I have two choices: Realtek HD Audio and DirectSound, neither of which work -- they are both red and as a result, DirectShow is constantly "reset" which shows a quick flash of a video frame of the channel and then goes black again...

Regardless of renderer (overlay, VMR7, VMR9, etc) or any combination of any other installed codecs... I have tried updating DirectX but there's nothing to update to, I've tried different versions of the Realtek HD audio driver from MSI...

This same hardware and software combination, using just the TT S2-3200, works flawlessley in DVBViewer and ProgDVB; yes, I know DVBViewer does not support the Skywalker. But seriously, DVBDream is 10x nicer to look at and use, and I'd rather the Skywalker work then the TT -- I just wish DVBDream would work properly

Do I need to change a GUID? Can anyone offer some insight?

it sounds weird.

have you tried the same thing on a clean DD install ? using Intervideo video and audio codecs (just download the latest trial of WinDVD for the codecs)

Trust me, I've tried it all -- up until a few weeks ago when I finally got DVBViewer working, I tried for a good month to get DD working... the Intervideo codecs on clean install after clean install, Cyberlink, ATI, AC3Filter, FFDShow...

The only reason I switched to DVBViewer was because of this audio problem... I would much rather use DD for the DiseqC support especially...

In DVBViewer, the ATI MPEG2 codec is flawless. AC3Filter works beautifully in 2.0 and 5.1... Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to compare the two.. Just one works perfectly and the other has audio problems... weird indeed!

I haven't seen anything red in DD. Though I might be mistaken, who knows.
I've seen filters get "greyed" out. If this is the case, it's just a quirk of DD. Honestly, for me it seems like DD rejects too many absolutely "legal" combinations. Like I yet to see Cyberlink H.264 connecting into a working graph with its own (Cyberlink's, that is) AC3 DS audio filter. Nobody reported success on that front, so everyone in NA has lipsync problem with Intervideo audio codec. It's irreproducible in Europe, so it's not a "real" bug for DD developers. Oh well.

There might be a brute force solution to your particular problem: in guids.ini, leave just Intervideo filter uncommented, use Radlight Filter Manager app to hype its merit just in case, reboot, go to task manager to see what else among your processes might be clogging your direct audio output, kill them all, on a slightest suspicion. Then run DD and check again. BTW, all (and I mean all) DVB apps have a nasty habit to exit dirty, so if you tried some DVB viewer first, then went testing DD, you might end up with audio resources are not freed/reset. Depends also on interrupts conflict handling by your Win2003, I just don't like it. WinXP SP2 is less prone to mistakes/bugs in that area.

This is what I see. For Audio Renderer, those two are my only choices.

Though the Active DirectShow filters list on the right of those screenshots does not seem to correspond to the actual settings; Generic Video Renderer as opposed to Overlay Video Renderer which is actually set...

Yeah, I also noticed your Generic video renderer squeezed in instead of your Overlay renderer. The worst quirk here is that they are both present in your graph. Did you try to use VMR or VMR9 istead of overlay, to get rid of unwanted Generic renderer? Maybe this could be a root of your problem.

Also, the so called "AC3 Filter" can be arguably the worst of all AC3 filters, you may want to try Intervideo. Both ATI decoders are nothing to write mom about either, nVidia and Cyberlink/CoreAVC are probably better choices both in terms of stability/resource consumption and lack of conflicts with other code working on the mux.

I've tried literally every combination available to clean that up -- nothing works.

I've tried Cyberlink, Intervideo, nVidia (in my other server) and CoreAVC... No difference. I even went out and bought a Creative Labs PCI-E sound card, just to see if it would help, no change.

The ATI codec in DVBViewer is quite nice actually CoreAVC looks terrible, Cyberlink even worse, imo.

I've tried AC3 Filter with a Realtek HD chipset and it works fine.

Have you tried to update DirectX 9 ? --> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

It perhaps could be helpful ?!?

(On my own, I didn't not update DX9 to this latest release)

The parts for this PC were purchased August 28, 2007. I worked for a good couple of weeks to get this thing tweaked with DD but gave up and went with DVBViewer; DirectX is the latest and greatest (for the sake of argument, I tried updating again and there was nothing to update).

So I thought that since this Skywalker is a usb device, why not try it on my XP Pro SP2 box with an nVidia mobo -- same problem!



So I went through and compiled a list of common Windows KB Updates between my XP and 2003 boxes... 12 Updates, uninstalled 1 by 1, no change...

So I was thinking it might be an AMD-related thing (afterall, that's all I have tried it on so far), so I tried it on a notebook from work -- an Intel... Nadda...



Well, lets try WinDVD 8 demo codecs... nope!

So, now I got to thinking -- how about an updated Realtek directshow filter? So I started searching... I came across this badboy called ReClock -- SUCCESS! It's added a third Audio Renderer to my list of renderers in DD... Except now, there is frequent a/v-synch issues, which was NEVER an issue with DVBViewer...

I'd still rather DD work properly so I don't have to use ReClock -- I'm not sure if it was ReCLock or WinDVD but now my regular videos (mkv, xvid, etc) are having a/v-synch issues too -- time to go back a few days thanks to Ghost and pretend WinDVD never happened...
