Live Viewing OK but Cannot View Recordings

I've using Genpix and I can watch almost any channel but I cannot view any of the HDTV recordings. I've tried opening them with just about every application and all of them either crash or cannot open the file.

Is this a situation where I might need offline "decoding" software?

This just seems strange since I can watch the channel live but cannot view a recorded channel.

Currently I'm recording the TS stream.
