Deinterlacing with "bob" in it - anyone know any g

I use DVBDream on Windows Vista Home Edition with NVIDIA 9500GT, mainly as a recording device.

However, the video always comes out looking different, and not deinterlaced as I want it to be.

My codec options in 1.4i are:

InterVideo
FFDShow
Cyberlink
Microsoft MPEG-2 Encoder
Elecard 3.x

but I'm not sure what codec I can install that has deinterlacing on it, or even how to get it working on DVBDream 1.4i.

Any help appreciated!

As I understand it, a "traditional" CRT TV effectively operated in a "bob" de-interlacing mode, even field then odd field, displayed alternately.

Using bob I find makes live events look more like "normal" TV. There are other modes to use, blend, discard, inverse bob (don't use that one!) etc, and I guess it could be argued some are better than others.

I had a look at 100fps, good site, that is!
What I'm trying to do is ensure that live programs look live, and not "cinematic" when recorded... which my recordings have come out as for some reason.

What settings should I change in DVBDream 1.4i with my codecs mentioned above?

Your recordings will be totally unaffected by how you setup the de-interlacing in your codec at the time of recording.

The recording is the as transmitted video stream, so its all about how you set your de-interlacing in your playback software.

If you are using VLC, right click on the video itself whilst it is playing, go to video, then de-interlace and change it to whatever mode you want.

You can also change your prefernces to make this the default mode.

How would I do that in DVBDream? I'm new to this and it's a learning curve, but I'm slowly getting there.

That's actually a good question.

The de-interlacing mode is part of the codec settings rather than DVB Dream, so you would need to do it with the settings manager for the codec.

I use the ArcSoft codecs, but I haven't tried fixing the de-interlace mode to a particular setting and keeping it there... but I will and I'll let you know how I get on.

Right, sorry for the delay!

The deinterlacing options in the ArcSoft codec aren't very clear (auto, none and force), plus they don't seem to get saved when you close DVB Dream.

After a great deal of messing around, I'm not running the cyberlink codec(I've not tested the CPU/GPU usage yet though), but you can change the codec to "force bob" and it seems to remember that following a restart of DVB-Dream.
