Intermittent Pixilated Video

Postby ravenhawk » Mon Nov 01, 2010 2:33 pm

I am getting intermittent pixilated video on both HD and some SD channels as well. I have checked my dish alignment and it is good. Signal 90%+ as well as quality. I am using a Genpix Skywalker 2 DVB card with the driver that come with it. I use DVB link to get the video to WMC but I get the same results in DD as will. Adjusting the buffers help a bit but still have the issue. I have tried different codec as will with the same results. Also a friend of mine has the same setup and he has the same issue.

Any Ideas how to resolve this or is this an issue with DD?

Thanks,
Ravenhawk

check the Pid statistic (Menu -> Analysis -> Pid Statistics).
Particularly, check the amount of CEs (Continuity Errors) in video/audio pids.
If you see no errors, pixelation is probably NOT due to the hardware problems.
You have to look for software configuration conflicts/problems.

Have you tried to record (in renderless mode), and then play back recorded file in a player like MPC? Do you see the same problems?

PS: you are talking about FTA channels, right? cause if you are talking about encrypted channels, DD or hardware have nothing to do with your artifacts!!!

I checked and both tuners do not have the CEs incrementing on any of the listed PIDs.

I mostly use rederless mode as I send the video and audio to Media Center. I check to make sure the issue was happening on the DD video and it was. The other issue is jerky video at times.

My friend has the same issue and it was worse then my issue but after I had him update to the latest version his has subsided quite a bit. To me it might be an issue with DD. I have played around with the settings and the only thing that helped was increasing the buffer size.

Any recommendation as to what setting I should try?

Some worse then others. Locals are the worst. I was just watching one of the locals and the artifacts were bad. What I noticed is that when the artifacts happen it freezes the current image and then the artifact video that is trying to be rendered was of an image of a few seconds earlier and then it snaps back to the normal playing video. If that makes sense.

Encrypted going to my dream box upstairs. But I don't believe this is the issue. I think this is a memory issue as the image that is being rendered is from a few seconds earlier. It acts more like a memory buffer that does not get cleared and the video hits a portion of the buffer that has old video data. It appears to happen more when the whole screen need refreshed like if you are watching the news and they cut quickly to a new camera.

now, remove all plug-ins associated with decrypting.
tune to FTA channel and try again.
Do you see problem or not!
Answer this simple question, and then we'll continue from there.

Just an update, also tried 3 different cam plug ins and all have the same issue and the other 3 receivers have no issues all using the same card server and everything is on a local network. So as I stated before I do not believe this is a cam issue especially when I saw the same issue on a fta channel. I either have some settings that need to be set correctly or this is a bug. I also noticed that if there is a lot of fast movement in the scene that it does it more. I did some recording and it shows up in the recording too. Any help on resolving this wold be grate.

Still having issues, anyone able to shine a light on this subject? I have tried numerous changes and no luck. At this point I would say it is a bug with the buffering.
