Lost packets only while recording.

Postby Mickice » Fri Aug 26, 2011 5:34 am

Firstly I love the program and can sit and watch TV all day long, even multiple channels.

My set up is basically SONY's Play TV DVB-t tuner box with pinnacle drivers.
Computer specs are:
1.8 Dual Core
2GB of RAM
nVidia 9600 GS video card.
CPU usage: 14% on SD and 30-ish% on HD

Like I said I can watch TV all day long without 1 frame drop or packet loss (Except on channel change). When I go to record something (.Mpg or .TS) tho I get intermittent packets lost every now and again interrupting the record file and my viewing.

What I can do tho is use the stream recorder module perfectly fine.

My initial guess would be with the codecs. I have the latest K-lite installed.

you may try to switch OFF playback (renderless mode) while recording.
Looks like your PC is not fast enough to do both jobs simultaneously.

This could be the case, but ages ago I had it set up where i'd probably only have 1 or 2 frame artifacts within a 2hour movie.

I'll check out the renderless mode.

you shoud also check if your drive is fragmented (run defrag or similar tool)
drive fragmentation can have high impact on the dropped frames especially if fragmentation is high enough btw so called green drives are especially sensitive to fragmentation when not fragmented their write speed can be round 120 mb but when fragmented their write speed can drop down to several kb wich isnt enough to succesfully record (tested on some Seagate green drives)
other thing is green drives perform awfull on mulititasking so if possible never install os on green drive
one more thing when possible try to record to different phisical drive then your os is on
never put green drives into raid their performance will be terrible

Thought I might just chime in and give a little update.

Could have been an issue with that version, but with version 1.6 and the video buffers increased I can now record a 30minute segment and not lose 1 packet.

My reception isn't perfect but it's not glitching every 3 minutes like before.
