Any Successes with H.264 in NA - Native in DVBDream?

Postby toshiba » Mon Aug 27, 2007 10:18 am

I have yet been able to view live h.264 streams natively in DVBDream.

Has anyone out there been successfull? Is there any word from Rel on this issue?

Currently, the best quality I can get is with Cyberlink7.3 video and Intervideo audio. Pausing and stuttering on 720p and lipsynch problems with 1080i.

Thanks!

i prefer tsreader it cuts CPU utilization by 50%. And utilizes dual core

Give the latest nvidia drivers a try , they should activate your on chip HD accelerator.

I am using version 165, which was a unofficial release on a 7800 gs. And it definitely uses hardware decoding.

but the newest official driver is supposed to only enable it for the 8000 series for now, the others to come later.

I shy away from TSReader because I'm more into the "watch TV" ability of DVBDream...guide, remote, etc. If TSReader can provide this functionality, please elaborate on your setup, or kindly point me to a resource link.

The problem with DVBDream, however, is not CPU usage. My CPU never goes above 50% when viewing NA h.264 material. And if I make recordings of the same content with DVBDream and watch them in PowerDVD, my CPU usage is less than 20% w/o hardware acceleration.

I believe the problem is the way DVBDream is parsing the packets. Whatever the issue is, it causes the codec to have a difficult time of it.

I am posting to find out for how many people this is an issue, or to see if someone has found a codec combination that solves the issue.

Thanks for replying.
