Remote control for DD
Moderators:X05, Dreamer, FredB
The 880 does control IMON. That's not my problem. I am able to boot up my HTPC with my remote and also open IMON to select which program I want to run. My problem is actually using it to control DD for purposes such as executing DVBEPG, fullscreen, and keying in numbers for directly switching channels. Is there a way I can bind keys from my remote and control DD, or is there a simpler way???I am not sure you can control IMON with Logitech remote. IMON got non-standard IR frequencies. You better use IMON own remote. Or you can check the forum at www.soundgraph.com

Re: Remote control for DD
Using a bundled remote control that came with my Twinhan StarBox II (7021A), works like a charm. Can someone suggest a remote control that can control Dvbdream such as changing channels and navigating like a STB.
channel numbers using remote with ss2
How do you switch channels using the remote other than using the up and down arrows? I tried punching in the channel number but it does nothing. Any ideas?
Thanks.
Thanks.

IMon Suggestions
I use IMon with DD/DVBEPG with great success. I get almost a STB feel when its working well. This also works with my Harmony remote -- Logitech has an IMon profile that can be downloaded.
How I set up my IMon remote:
- In IMon manager set up a Program Command group for DD
- Under that program group you will have to set up mappings for the F9 key to some key on the remote (to bring up DVBEPG--I use the "DVD Menu" key)
- Also map "CTRL+W" (to reset direct show--needed for occasional lock-ups--I use the "DVD Language" button)
- Then go to the windows commands section in IMon manager
- On the Mouse Command tab, map a key on the remote as the "double-click" mouse action (to toggle full screen in DD, if desired; just remember the mouse pointer has to be over the video window--I use the "Full Screen" button, but you may have to first remove it from other apps in the "Program Commands" section)
- If you're interested in changing aspect ratio, map a buton here for mouse right-click--I use the "Aspect Ratio" button
(You will have to use the arrow buttons + enter to choose an AR or to record/stop recording)
- Go to the "Macro Command" section and map each keyboard number key 0-9 to the 0-9 number keys on the remote (I don't know why SoungGraph doesn't do this by default...)
- Also map the keyboard combination "ALT-Tab" to a button (So that you can flip from the fullscreen DVBEPG overlay back to fullscreen DD--I use the "DVD Caption" button)
- Do like chattana says and add DD to the Application Launcher in IMon Manager (This makes it possible to launch DD--the "App Exit" button exit DD whenever it or DVBEPG is the active window)
- Another suggestion for NA E* users is to add a shortcut to your windows startup folder with the following path C:\dvbdream\dreamstart.exe /chname="CNN" /fullscreen --This will start DD automagically when you boot and tune to CNN which is on an E* transponder streaming the full EPG
Other suggestions:
- I have an HTPC setup using an HDTV as a monitor at 1920x1080 so I want the closest thing to an STB feel I can get
- Disable the built in DD OSD and also disable the DVBEPG overlay on channel change
- Set DVBEPG to run in fullscreen mode and size it to about 3 rows and 4 columns -- I suggest you play around with the sizing and fonts until it looks good (I will post my DVBEPG.ini file for anyone who is interested)
- When you launch DVBEPG it will be in fullscreen mode but sized more modestly with enough of the live video in the background around it so that you can still watch TV while browsing the guide
- If you used my steps above you can use the arrow keys on the IMon remote to navigate DVBEPG, use the number keys + select to jump to a channel, and press the select key to change to that channel
- *As an added note I suggest deleting as many unwanted channels from your chlist.chl file as you can because it seems that DVBEPG can get confused if there are duplicate SID's or channels w/o EPG data.
Some random thoughts:
It would be great if others with IMon remotes could start posting their settings/suggestions.
The "Carbon Fiber" skin for DVBEPG is cool.
It's too bad the DVBEPG record function doesn't work as we would then be able to select programs to record from w/in DVBEPG.
I have also experimented with mapping the DD timeshift hotkeys to remote buttons, but timeshift wasn't working too well at the time.
I'm posting this in an effort to contribute what I can. So I hope this helps someone. DD is a brilliant program.
Thanks.

Remember the F4 cycles between fullscreen, tv windowed, and standard. For toggle full screen ther is a simpler method - the F4 key. Juts map it to your IMON full screen button.
I use the double-click because I can go from a standard window to fullscreen and back w/o having to cycle through the tv window option.
Just wanted to point out the differences. It's whichever you prefer.

Good question... Well the number buttons wouldn't work on DVBEPG if I mapped them as a program command for DD. So I used macro. I can't remember why I used macro over custom. When you look at them they appear to be the same except that macro allows up to 4 keystrokes. So I guess the short answer is that there is no benefit with macro for what I'm doing.OK, got you. I dont mind cycling through all modes.
BTW, why did you map numbers as macro commands and not as custom commands? what are the benefits?
Thanks

THanks for the all info Tosiba...you've been a great help. After reading your instructions many times over, it's starting to make sense to me. Currently the only way I am able to do direct channel switching is by moving channels to "Remote" section next to favs. I am unable to switch to say 200 for CNN as pressing 200 will take me to the 200th channel listed under Remote. Is there an easier way? Is it possible to just be able to press 500 and get the PPV guide channel directly instead of just gettting the 500th channel listed under Remote?

1) select all channels in remote (CTRL +SHIFT + A or with help of the mouse)
right click on anychannel, click on "Assign SID to Ch.No"
2) use CHLTools (main menu->modules). click on "SID->CHid"
DVB Dream - because I have to dream about having time to code it
