Recording mpg files won't change from ts?
Moderators:X05, Dreamer, FredB
I am trying to record in mpg format but it seems to be stuck in ts format? I am using the latest version "i".

Strange, I have no problem. I even tried to change to TS, record few seconds, then back to MPG, no problem.
Do you tried the patch?

I have the exact same issue using Vista Ultimate with UAC turned off.I am trying to record in mpg format but it seems to be stuck in ts format? I am using the latest version "i".
I have only tried to record h.264 channels.

I hear you, but...It seems the non h.264 channels record mpg but the h.264 only record .ts.
Is this a bug or the nature of the h.264 file structure that lends itself to only use .ts file?

The file extension (just an FYI) usually does not matter. One can record in .mpg format, but have it set as a transport stream. DD, however, does not do this, if .mpg is an option (all mpeg2 channels only), then it is a program stream. H.264 content can ONLY be recorded, currently, as a transport stream (which is fine), but it can also only record with .ts extension.
.mpg = transport stream or program stream (DD only does program)
.ts = transport stream (DD does this correctly)
However, as I've posted somewhere else, if you record MPEG2 as a .ts file, the PMT is captured fully with reference to audio+video PIDs, so there is no issue. H.264, however, the PMT is not entirely captured, therefore there is no reference to the audio/video streams. So, if you have issues playing back h.264 files (which, again, can only be recorded in .ts using DD), then it is likely that your player cannot interpret what the audio and video PIDs are since they are missing from the PMT.
