Sky Star 2 USB-IR device and Remote Control

Postby laserdude » Mon Mar 17, 2008 7:24 pm

DD is the best. Forget all the rest. Just love it; however, how does one get the USB-IR and remote that cames with the SS2 to work? Read many post for over a week now and tried many solutions but nothing works.
The IR icons are available in the tray for all installations but IR does not seem to respond to remote commands.

During the configuration of the IR device in "winlirc reconfiguration" there is no place to select a USB port. Only com ports are available. The IR icon in the tray shows that the device has been initalized correctly. Turns yellow to indicate it was initialized and then grey to indicate it is ready.

Followed the post that suggested to select "winlirc" in DD under the options - remote menu after the configuration, but nothing happens.

System does not work...nothing.

Can anyone guide me to the solution, if any, please? The port is USB002.

Technisat USB IR recever

Postby alexir » Sun Mar 23, 2008 9:40 am

Hi! I have same problem (Technisat USB IR recever does not work ) and I work hard on this for two week. There is no solution for this poroblem if your OS is 32 bit XP. Accoding the Techisat Manual the USB IR recever have to work as an HID device, an keyboard, but at Windows XP HID device service was disabled after trojan attacs (well-known netsvcs.exe problem). I've tried to switch back the HID device service, but it seems to be impossible. So you can't use remote control with Technisat USB IR recever at Windows XP (32 bit). It's true I've read this device work properly at Vista and at new 64 bit XP, but for me is no reason to change my OS. I've solved this problem after building of an self made IR receiver http://blog.ashfame.com/wp-content/uplo ... for_PC.pdf
Now it work properly with Techisat Remote and Winlirc.

Thanks! I'll give it a try. I was looking for an IR module for some time now but cannot find any type in my location.

Thanks again

Configure your winlirc

Postby dizzymon » Fri Mar 28, 2008 3:31 pm

Once you install winlirc_setup.exe to your DD installation folder, make sure you have it configured right and set to the correct COM1 or COM2. Set your remote profile to Skystar_2 in the dropdown. Then push the button to test it. You should see that icon turn green each time you push a button. Load up DD and select that you have wlirc remote. It should work pretty easy. I had an older SS2 remote and it sucked. The one that works is the slender longer remote.
