Squares on screen - what do they mean

Squares on screen - what do they mean

In the image linked to above I've noticed squares on screen, I have FFDShow codecs set, is this due to them?

I noticed these today, and haven't seen them before now... why is this?

I have FFDShow codecs set
not really ;)

The squares are from the elecard codec ...and this means ...the trial period is over ...
