Creating a new Tuner-Device

Postby ScanMan » Tue Apr 17, 2007 7:04 am

Can anybody help me in creating a new Tuner-Device for DD ?
Are there any examples or code-fragments or complete code (e.g. the BDA-Driver) like the little sample for modules in the SDK ?
C++ will do - but Delphi is much better...
The reason:
I got a lttle USB BOX from Typhoon (TwinHan Starbox - VP 70210, Board Rev. 3) and it works satisfactory only with the original TwinHanDTV (3.1, BDA Driver 1.0.3.4) or with DVBViewer Pro.
Because i have some working C-Code to have fully functionality also with Diseqc here, i like trying to write a device for DD.
Can anyone help ... soon ? Thanks & greetings from germany.

Try the Module / Plugin Programming section. Rel - DD author is away, so he can't help you now.

I don't think that a posting in Module/Plugin will give more (or any) answer than here...
Someone should know anything about programming a device !? Taking a look in DD's 'Device-Section' i can see names like X05, nexus, genpix and Leonid.
So there must be more than one person (rel), who can give any information how to do this 'little thing'... !?

NEXT URGENT QUESTIONS:
rel is 'on holiday' (or something else)....
When can we expect him back to fix those many poor bugs and get more neccessary features in DD ?????
Or will be further programming closed ?
PLEASE - ANYBODY - MAKE AN EMERGENCY CALL ALL OVER THE WORLD TO GET rel BACK !!!!
a.s.a.p.

there is a sort of DDK for DVB dream.
Though, it's not public. You have to get it directly from rel.

But even if you have it, you still need to know how to talk to the hardware in every little detail.
If you don't know complete list of these details, don't bother with writing a driver.

I made a driver for genpix devices, cause I know everything about them.
But I can't write a driver to anything else. I'm dead serious.

@ Dreamer
A few weeks sounds good. But a few month will be mor than ever...

@genpix
DD device drivers seems to be a simple (?) DLL with an interface to DD where some functions like setting DiSeqc, locking the tuner and give a hook for TS and many more are called.
There is source code in C++ available (DOS command line tool) to set up all neccessary params for (many ?) TwinHan Cards and StarBox. It works well here. I frivolously think to get it managed ?!

If you wrote a driver for genpix devices, you should have an skeletal structure for building such an DLL.
Can i have the source of your driver to have a look at and modifiy it for TH's ?
As dreamer wrote, it could take a few weeks / months until rel is back...

I don't think I can share the info which Rel gave me in private e-mail.
You have to wait for him to ask for DDK.
He would make it public long ago (if he wanted to).

Very unpleasant news :x
As dreamer (and a few more people in the german forum) wrote: ... Rel should be back in few weeks/months.
This is a very undefined time and many TwinHan- (also Typhoon-) Box-users are hopefully waiting to use DD.
A functionally tuner device for this kind of hardware will avoid many questions (also here), will make a lot of people much more happier and can eliminate the disservice against other Software like eg. DVBViewer or the very unuseable TwinHan programm.
So why you are so uncooperatively ? I think rel will have no objections to get more funtionality and pubilicity through assistence of more hardware.
I don't want to make this code public - also only a few perople can do anything with that source...
So i only can say: PLEASE... send a short pm to get my mailadress to sent me some usable code-frazzles.

Decision of genpix is absolutely correct. Read his last post again - more carefully.

Hi ScanMan,

I Understand your position, but you can't ask the people that have the DDK to send it to you and expect that they send it to you, they received it as something private.

The rel and only the rel have the power to it.

What are we doing here ? Who is/are 'we' ?
We are a great community of people(s), wich don't like the silly & mostly unusable Prog's comming with the Card's and/or Boxes and like to have more functinonality while using a comfortable programm to watch digital TV.

Rel is a great prgrammer doing his best to give us all a a fine grogramm ! But he can't (!) do anything alone - he needs help from people reporting bugs, giving new ideas and manything more.
Therefore we have forum's like this and the german 'www.dvbdream.de'- i'm one of the mod's doing it's best to help people from solving there manyfold problems. And i try to care it well !

Many user's of TwinHan Starbox and/or Thyphoon USB-Box reported heavy probs to get this device running with DD.
ME TOO ! Hardwareprobs ? No ! Those USB-boxes will run fine with the original and some other Software. So why not with DD ????
It seems to be a driver/device prob. See text above.

My very little and simlpe idea was to create a new device-drive like 'TWINHAN-USB.DEV' to fix those probs.
ONLY TO HELP THE DESPEREATE HOUSEWIfE's (and -MAN's) :-)

Is rel able to write such a driver himself ?
Will he have the neccessary information (i will give it self-evident !) ?
Will he have the neccessary Hardware to test ist ? (... i dont beleive - i have it here)
Will he have the neccessary time to do it contemporary ? (... see 'timings' above)

Yes - everything around DD is rel's only intellectual property !!!

HOWEVER:
rel blazed his distinguished programm for free !
This forum (and the german one) gives feedback to make it better !

Conclusion:
Why i cannot have this dam..d f....ing DDK to try to develope a new device ?
Absolutely incomprehensibly !

I hope for some comprehension.

Starting from next week, I will have to leave working on DD for a few months due to a busy period.
Nevertheless while I'm not here, X05 might handle the development of DD. But better please do not expect too much from now on.

... yes, i know this posting and read it well months ago ...
I still asked X05 for help with my intention a few times via private mail.
But no response until today.
A very dissatisfying situation, because there's more than my little idea to do.

Hi rel !

Patience comes hopefully to an end and i'm still hoping to get the inquired information from you !
I hope you read the postings above well and understand the wishes of all StarBox-Users well.
Please, please send me information how to build (i try !) an device-driver to hopefully help those (and me...) out of a lot of probs.
You should know my EMail (we've contacted previous) or send me a pm.
1.000.000.000 thanks and more in advance !
